Andy Collopy

Andy Collopy is a New York City based theatre musician and coach who has been music directing professionally since the age of fifteen. Andy is currently the Associate Music Director of Daddy Long Legs at the Davenport Theatre in New York City.

Andy’s New York credits include Old Jews Telling Jokes at the Westside Theatre, where he was a pianist, and the 26th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition at the Minskoff Theatre, for which he played keyboard and was an associate musical director on the opening number. He was also the music director of The 8th Fold at FringeNYC, where it won an award for ensemble excellence and Angel On My Shoulder at the Midtown International Theatre Festival, which received nominations for best musical and best score. He works frequently at Mount Carmel Theatre Company, where he has music directed many shows including Company and Jesus Christ Superstar. Additionally, he has appeared as an on-screen pianist on NBC’s Smash and is a prolific audition accompanist, having played for many casting directors and offices including Telsey + Company, Tara Rubin Casting, and Stewart/Whitley. He has accompanied auditions of all kinds, including Broadway, Off-Broadway, television, touring, regional, and cruise ship productions.

As a copyist and music assistant, Andy’s work has been seen on many New York music stands. He has done the copy work for a number of new musicals, including Unlock’d at Prospect Theatre Company (which he also conducted multiple performances of), Hitting the Ground: A Violent Femmes Musical, The Most Miserable Christmas Tree, and Cookin! – A Taste of Things to Come at Amas Musical Theatre. He does regular copy work for a number of composers, including Carner & Gregor and Debra Barsha.

Outside of New York, Andy traveled to Ireland as the music director of Judy: A Tribute at the 2013 International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. In 2011, he spent a season as an associate conductor at the College Light Opera Company, where he conducted performances of five different shows over the course of a summer. He has also been a regular Vocal Director for Royal Caribbean Productions since 2014, where he works with the singers and prepares them for the onboard productions.

Andy has also worked extensively in educational theatre, working with children ranging from preschool through high school. He has worked as a music director for the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Summer Stars program, Broadway Triple Threat - Philly, and the Cleveland JCC’s Playmakers Performing Arts Camp. He has also worked at The Hewitt School in Manhattan as the music director of their high school and middle school musicals, and he is a frequent accompanist and coach for A Class Act NY and a regular pianist for the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. In 2015, Andy music directed over 450 high school students in the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards.

A cum laude graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music, Andy music directed the Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts productions of Coram Boy and Hello Again. Also in Ithaca, he has worked as a music director and pianist at such theaters as the Hangar Theatre, Cortland Repertory Theatre, and Running to Places Theatre Company.

As a singer, Andy has performed at such venues as Lincoln Center (both Avery Fisher and Alice Tully) and Carnegie Hall. While in school, he sang with the award winning contemporary a cappella group Ithacappella, with whom he appeared on American Idol and The Price is Right. Andy is also active as a composer and singer/songwriter, and holds a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
